Capacitive Switches - Xycap Dccs Digitally Controlled Capacitive Switching

capacitive touch example

Xymox now offers capacitive touch as an interface solution in addition to stock membrane switches and custom membrane swtiches. In some cases a capacitive touch solution may be preferred due to its light touch, durability, sealability, ease of use with front surfaces such as glass, and the option to design in scroll wheel type features.

Xycap Digital Controlled Capacitive Switch Key Features

The XyCap Digitally Controlled Capacitive Switches solution offers some unique features when compared to other capacitive chips, especially when you consider that Xymox can provide the total solution for you - from design thru full assembly build.

XyCap Capacitive Switch Features

  • Operates fully in digital domain
  • Low power consumption
  • Fast response time
  • Able to configure multiple key sensitivities within a keypad
  • Small key design available - down to 1mm square
  • High level of ESD protection

DCC (Digital Contact Controller) is a touch sensor IC which will convert capacitance generated between the human body and a conductive touch pad to digital data without any analog signal processing. The DCC chip is supplied through a Xymox agreement with Fujitsu Microelectronics America, Inc. and it includes proprietary technology of ATLab, Inc., Korea, that compares reference and sensor input impedances to detect touch, all in the digital domain. As the second generation touch sensor IC, the FMA1127 provides numerous new features compared to its predecessor.

Its programmability increases design flexibility and gives better performance and stability for a broader range of applications.

XyCap Is Water Resistant

The controller is water resistant and can be implemented with a variety of materials, making the technology an ideal choice for handheld healthcare products, home appliances or other applications

Xycap AIC (Automatic Impedance Calibration) Feature

The FMA1127’s AIC™ (Automatic Impedance Calibration) function can be easily configured to support different sensitivities for individual channels independently as well as to change values of parameters such as calibration interval. AIC may also be temporarily paused and resumed by a host MCU.

XyCap APIS (Adjacent Pattern Interference Suppression) Feature

Among the many new features of FMA1127, APIS™ (Adjacent Pattern Interference Suppression) is a filtering function to eliminate adjacent key or pattern interference. The FMA1127 also gives touch-strength output in addition to touch on/off output. There are a number of general-purpose DIOs depending on package type that can be configured and programmed to meet customer’s specific needs. This gives customers greater flexibility and value.
